Where we are now?
The Effingham County Board of Commissioners is proud to have maintained or lowered the County Maintenance and Operations (M&O) for the past 5 years and counting. It is our goal to continue this trend by reducing homestead property taxes until they reach ZERO.
The steady decline in the County M&O millage rate reflects the Effingham County Board of Commissioners' commitment to responsible financial management. By carefully balancing economic growth with sound fiscal planning, the County has continued to expand public services, improve infrastructure, and invest in parks and other community amenities without increasing the tax burden on homeowners.
Â
Project ZERO is the next step in that commitment, building on years of responsible budgeting and positioning Effingham County to continue reducing County M&O property taxes until they reach zero for qualifying homestead properties.

You and your family deserve to feel secure in the future.
