Where we are now?

Thanks to the Project Camellia land sale, citizens will see property tax relief this year.

The ECIDA has suspended its 2 mill tax levy, and provided $30 million in funding to the ECBOC and ECSD to provide immediate tax relief:

2 mill tax suspension: ECIDA
2 mill tax reduction: ECBOC
2 mill tax reduction: ECSD

That is a 6 mill reduction - The largest tax relief event in Effingham County history. In addition, the Georgia State Legislature is issuing a state grant, further lowering taxes.

This means the average homeowner will save roughly 30% on their 2026 tax bill.

The Effingham County Board of Commissioners is proud to have maintained or lowered the County Maintenance and Operations (M&O) for the past 5 years and counting. It is our goal to continue this trend by reducing homestead property taxes until they reach ZERO.

The steady decline in the County M&O millage rate reflects the Effingham County Board of Commissioners' commitment to responsible financial management. By carefully balancing economic growth with sound fiscal planning, the County has continued to expand public services, improve infrastructure, and invest in parks and other community amenities without increasing the tax burden on homeowners.

Project ZERO is the next step in that commitment, building on years of responsible budgeting and positioning Effingham County to continue reducing county property taxes until they reach zero for qualifying homestead properties.
